The life of [this] SAHM: take care of baby. Clean. Attempt (and fail) to maintain order with the teens, clean some more, take care of baby, cook, clean, take care of baby, pass out before cleaning is done (because baby doesn’t nap), repeat, daily.
Do I want to spend time with my husband? Sure… we sleep next to each other. Does that count?
Do I want to watch a TV show or movie? Sure… I read captions when I’m able to look up at the TV, and half listen to the rest through crying, talking, loud toys, gaming, and YouTube videos on cell phones.
Do I want to have a relaxing shower? Yeah… I get 5 minutes while the baby plays on the floor or while my husband is getting ready for work in the morning. Or in the middle of the night if I want to sacrifice sleep.
Do I want to eat a meal? Well yeah… I quickly shovel in whatever is baby safe for sharing while the baby is also eating, or while he’s playing or asleep for the night.
Do I want to have a date night? Hell yes…. perhaps when the baby is old enough to have a sleepover with a school friend (in years).
This is my station in life.
Some days I wonder where I am in all of this. When do I get to fulfill some dreams or do what I want? But… I adore my family. I love my husband. I love my kids. And I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
Felix is 10 months old today. He is so happy these days, and is a delight to spend our days with.
We are doing better with routines now, and I think that has helped him understand when bedtime is. Sleeping remains a struggle, and naps are nearly nonexistent, but we’re going to continue to work on it.
The developmental specialist said we should try to re-introduce dairy into Felix‘s diet, and so far it’s going well in small quantities. He is eating a pretty wide variety of foods now, and is finally starting to try and feed himself.
He is not crawling yet, though he is getting closer every day. His physical therapist reduced his visits to every other week rather than every week because he’s making such wonderful progress. She said she anticipates him being caught up with his peers by age 2. We are just all so happy that he is getting caught up, and that he has passed his fussy first several months.
I can’t believe we are nearing one year old! Onward and upward!
He’s trying to crawl! In this photo he’s on his hands and knees. He bounces like that. He also sits up with his back straight and can balance much better.
He’s been using his walker to stand but doesn’t have very good balance on his feet yet.
He’s also been eating what we eat in tiny bites rather than purées most of the time. He loves being included in whatever we are doing.
He likes being sung to and listening to mother goose songs on Apple Music. He also likes a few minutes of a time of Sesame Street.
He’s sleeping better most nights, and we’ve given up on naps. He will sleep for 15-30 minutes on me or Jarrod a couple times per day. That’s all.
He is enjoying more and more play time on the floor. We anticipate Felix will be mobile very shortly. I believe by his ten-month update he will be crawling. Stay tuned.
This is a video update about Felix’s first day in physical therapy. I will do a more detailed update at the end of the week. Thanks for watching.
Felix is 5 months old, and boy is he growing and changing! He’s finally over his colic, though a few tummy troubles remain sometimes. Eliminating formula and giving him 100% breastmilk seems to have helped quite a lot, but sometimes whatever I eat affects him pretty strongly. He sees a specialist for his tummy troubles next week to see what we can do about it.
He finally smiles regularly, though I can’t often catch a picture. He giggles fairly regularly too, mostly at things that slightly startle him. He gets very bored sitting in the house, and has zero interest in TV or anything on a screen. He LOVES water now, and enjoys playing in his wading pool and the bathtub often. He would much rather be outside than anywhere else. He thinks the grass is cool, and likes kicking his feet in it.
He does very well with tummy time now, and has started rolling from front to back. He still needs some help with back to front, but he understands how to do it with a little help. He’s pretty good about sitting up with support, but he won’t always do it. He will “wilt” if he doesn’t feel like sitting up. He still doesn’t nap much or well, but he usually sleeps well overnight, as long as his tummy isn’t hurting.
He loves lots of direct attention by singing to him or playing with him. He still isn’t grabbing at toys or reaching for things much at all, but I work with him on it often. He babbles quite a lot, telling us lots of stories.
Overall, he’s doing a LOT this month compared to before. He’s his mom and dad’s little sidekick, and is so much fun to spend time with. His colic really made him miserable, and now that he’s turned a corner with it, his true personality is shining through. It’s a whole new world, and it’s a great one!
